Sánchez Cuts Holiday Short to Visit Spain’s Worst Wildfire Zones in Ourense and León

MADRID – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has ended his holiday in Lanzarote to deal with Spain’s worst week of wildfires, which have killed three, injured several, and forced hundreds to evacuate. Record blazes struck Zamora and Galicia, prompting EU assistance with French firefighting planes. Sánchez chaired a crisis meeting and will visit Ourense and León. The opposition Popular Party has criticised his delayed response, calling the fires a “national crisis” and urging extraordinary measures, including Army deployment. Ministries say military and aerial resources are already supporting regional authorities as the blazes continue.
