Spain Faces Three More Days of Critical Wildfires

MADRID – Spain’s government has warned of at least three more critical days of wildfires, with flames expected to continue in Galicia, Castilla y León, and possibly Extremadura until Tuesday or Wednesday. Authorities fear existing blazes could reignite in strong winds while new outbreaks remain possible. The government hopes Monday’s forecasted end to the heatwave will ease conditions. By Saturday afternoon, the Interior Ministry reported 19 active fires, mainly in the northwest, with 12 supported by Military Emergencies Unit (UME) forces. Temperatures near 40°C in at-risk provinces continue to complicate firefighting efforts.
