Wildfire in Tarifa Forces Evacuation of 2,000 People
TARIFA, Spain – A forest fire in the Sierra de la Plata, near Bolonia beach, has prompted the evacuation of more than 2,000 people from the Atlanterra area, including guests from the Meliá Zahara and Cortijo hotels. The Andalusian government has activated Phase 1 of its emergency plan and deployed 14 aircraft as strong Levante winds drive the blaze. Residents in the northern frontline of Atlanterra and nearby urbanisations, including Montaña de Los Alemanes, have been cleared, while others in Atlanterra and Zahara de los Atunes have been told to remain indoors with windows closed due to smoke. Road access to the affected zone and nearby leisure spots has been cut.
